PSV Match, Sedges Tile Lake, 22/03/15

We had 17 or so originally booked in but ended up with 9, mostly due to Bristol City's trip to Wembley (which they won the Paintable Cup or something).

Anyways back to the match and after the usual faffing and chatting we managed to get down to the draw. The pegs used were 21, 23, 26, 28, 31, 33, 35, 38 and 40. I fancied one of the 3 corners or maybe 36 or 26.  But to be honest I would have been happy not to fish as my wrist/arm wasn't better.
I plucked peg 28, not the worst peg in the world and one I have had several times and not ever done any good in general.
For company I had Matt Taynton on peg 26, he'd been fishing the venue plenty over the winter and is a very good angler, no doubt he'd mostly be fishing a pellet feeder and then a waggler, mostly with banded 6mm pellets I would guess.

Sedges Tile Lake peg 28

With me still having a problem with my tendonitis I never had any intention of fishing for silvers as it'd involve too much shipping a pole back and forth. I am not sure that I could do that.
So I basically set up a method feeder and a waggler, plus a couple of top kits for the pole (1 for 5 sections in front and another for down towards the empty peg 29), these areas never gave me a fish on my usual meat tactics so no more on them.

I began on the feeder and it took ages to get a positive pull, that was a 6oz skimmer. Not much followed so I tried the waggler, this gave me another 6oz skimmers.
That's how my match went, in fact I had all of 12 bites over the 6 hours on meat or pellets, I didn't use maggots as there were loads of fry around. I ended up with a solitary carp and 6 or 7 small skimmers to 1lb.

During the match I did manage to watch the Liverpool v Man Utd match on my phone, which in all ways was the highlight of my day to be honest. Poor old Stevie G.  Hahahahaha.

Across the lake, over the course of the match I saw Ron Hardiman start off well on the corner peg 31 (fishing to the corner of the island and then down along the end bank), his catch rate slowed as the day went on, Julian Nurse on p33 kept plugging away for the silvers of all sizes. Steve Burgess (on the waggler? then later the pole down the edge) and Alan Healey picked up fish throughout the day (lead and wag) including an 18lb lump by the out-going match secretary Steve.
On my bank it was Matt Taynton who'd done well, mostly catching on his usual waggler set-up fishing 3/4 of the way to the island fishing 6mm hard pellet. By the end of the match he'd be close to winning I guessed.

So after 6hrs it was the all out, which I was glad of really. I had agreed to pay 2 quid to Steve Burgess before the match when the results were confirmed.
I was quick enough to pack up and even went round to Steve to get the board and began the weigh in.
That began with Lee Waller amassing 25lb or so, Derek dnw'd, Matt had 55lb-ish and I had 12lb or so. Ron Hardiman had just over 51lb then Julian Nurse's silvers weighed 18lb 13oz, Mr Healey had 64lb and apparently he admitted to well below that!! lastly was Steve, he had 58lb 4oz. John Bradford dnw'd from peg 40.

Results:
1st Alan Healey, 64-09 peg 35
2nd Steve Burgess, 58-04 peg 38
3rd Matt Taynton, 55-12 peg 26
4th Ron Hardiman, 51-11 peg 31
5th Lee Waller, 25-00 peg 21
6th Julian Nurse, 24-04 peg 33
7th Lee Williams, 12-07 peg 28
2x DNW

Silvers
1st Julian Nurse, 18-13
2nd Lee Waller,  10-12

Weigh Sheet
So all in all I wasn't best pleased with how it went for me, but that was mostly caused by lack of enthusiasm and 'faulty' right arm!! If I could have fished properly for the silvers then maybe I would have done better, but I didn't fancy hurting my arm any more than needed!

Next up is a match on Campbell Lake at Viaduct, but that lake is still peggy with the carp still reasonably shoaled in the usual winter areas in front of 115 and 116, plus the opposite pegs. Lets hope they have spread about a bit now it seems that the frosts have disappeared.

Until next time, take care.

Sedges Tile Lake, PSV Match, 08-02-15

Not much to write about this week as not a lot occurred for the match we had at Sedges.

I arrived in plenty of time as I only live a few minutes away from the venue, but I was the only person there when I arrived, so a quick scout around the lake to see how much ice was present, there was a touch of cat ice in peg 21 and that was it.
However it was rather chilly in the fog, but that was due to disperse with the sun breaking through in the late morning.

A slightly foggy Tile Lake, Sedges.
Anyways I wasn't too keen on fishing, I had a feeling things would be tough after a period of cold weather and then a sudden bright day and no ice on the water (I feel ice helps when it's cold).
We only had 7 of us fishing, not a great number, but not really surprised as the weather hasn't been conductive to catching a few fish.

Anyways we paid our monies and chose to fish 7 pegs along the middle of the lakes, pegs 32, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39 were used. I drew 2nd last and was rewarded with 39. Not too bad.
I had Matt Challenger next to me on peg 38.
The 2 preferred pegs were occupied by Lee Waller and Alan Healey up on pegs 32 and 33 respectively. Nice pegs for silvers usually when it's a northerly wind.

Sedges Tile, Peg 39

I didn't fancy fishing for the silvers, which in hindsight was a mistake, so I set up a waggler for maggot and meat, a lead rod for bread/pellet/marshamallow/bunches of maggots plus a couple pole rigs, both at 14.5m distance. The 1st in front and the 2nd down in front of peg 40 (just off the shelf).

To cut a short story shorter, I had liners on the 'tip which I couldn't convert to bites despite all my efforts, I never had a bit on the waggler and only had 1 bite, which I missed on the pole line down to peg 40.
My only 2 fish came on a maggot feeder chucked close to the island, both under 1oz roach, the 1st caught on 5 dead reds, the 2nd on a banded 8mm pellet......greedy fecks!!

Other than Lee Waller, who was putting silvers in to his next throughout the match, things were hard.
Myself, Matt C, Matt Taynton, Steve Burgess and Keith Ray all struggled, with the others only catching  a few silvers late on, mostly on the long pole.
Meanwhile, un-beknown to me, Alan had landed 3 or 4 carp and a skimmer on lead/bread tactics cast on/towards the island.

By the time the weigh in had been done I would have been home and on the sofa, Keith did not weigh either.

So not the best day on the bank, but such is life. I would have packed up around lunchtime, but my lack of motivation even got me not being arsed to do that!!

1. Lee Waller (32) ....... 19-5
2. Alan Healey (33) ..... 17-5
3. Matt Taynton (37) .... 5-0
4. Steve Burgess (36) ... 3-7
5. Matt Challenger (38) ... 3-3
And 2 dnw's

Mr Waller caught his silvers and solitary carp on soft pellet over micros on the long pole.

Next up is a match on Plantation's Main Lake, it has been a while since I fished there.

Take Care

14-04-13 Sedges Silvers Match, Pawlett Club Match

The less said about this the better.
After a late night/early morning and only 3.5hrs maximum sleep my heart and head was not into going today, I had prepared my bait and stuff and my intentions were good, but at 7am I got out of bed and really could not be arsed.

I loaded the car though and made the 5 minute trip to The Sedges, loaded the trolley and waited for the draw. Brick peg 16, now I draw this peg (and 18) quite often, infact I think on the last 6 matches on Sedges I have had 16 four times and 18 twice.

I got to my swim, the wind was strong meaning that over 8m wasn't easy as it was heading straight up the lake, so a topkit rig was set up, a rig for 4m out and another for around 8m or so.
A feeder and waggler were set up to.

Well in the 2 hours I fished I managed a bunch of handsized silver fish, perch, skimmers and roach.
Some proper skimmers were being caught as well as the odd accidental carp. But the truth is that I really didn't have it in me to try, I just wanted to get home to the sofa and watch the footy.

So I don't know the results or anything else.

Next time, an earlier night and a match on Trinity Woodlands, a venue I have not fished for years.

Cheers.
