Just thought I would do a quick catch up of my matches since my last blog which was 6 months or so ago.
I stopped doing the blog as I found it quite a chore to be honest, the wife started her new job in October and we now have weekends off together so I have been a bit lax when deciding if to go fishing at all, my enthusiasm waned, it still isn't heading in the right direction and to be fair I am not missing my weekly outings. Maybe the colder/winter months didn't help. Only time will tell....
October, Summerhayes Silvers' Winners Final, finished 4th and one out of the money. A little over 9lb and the best weight from the road bank, Eric Fouracres won from peg 13 or 14 if I remember rightly.
November, I didn't go fishing at all this month.
December, I fished the Pawlett Xmas match at Sedges, managed a few carp but not as much as good friend Paul Berry on the peg next to me who won, I think I was 7th on the day. It was bloody windy and I lost my cupping kit connector and the tosspot/catty approach was not how I wanted to go. Still some ciders as a prize and a nice bit of grub at the Legion after was appreciated.
I drew peg 43 on the Viaduct Xmas match and got it all wrong and only had 8lb or so, not last in the match by a few pounds and collected more cider. Mark Wynne won the match.
Boxing day at Sedges, drew peg 23, wasted an hour fishing for silvers, then went for carp but was never gonna get in the frame but did catch just under 60lb which may have been 4th or 5th. If I remember rightly Jamie won from peg 25 or 26 (I could be wrong though).
30th of the month I went to Landsend, drew peg 21, struggled and DNW's after catching just 1 carp and some silvers.
January, just the one match, a Saturday open at Todber, it fished bloody hard for all and I only squeaked a few little carp together from peg 62 on Ash. Beaten by Big Nick Selway off the next peg and 46lb was top weight on Ash, 78lb won overall off Hillview.
February, the solitary match I fished that month was down at Landsend, I drew peg 24, a peg that hadn't been great in the recent form so I was not best pleased, but the weather was ok and I actually had a good day picking up carp from the open water towards the island to finish with 15 carp and 7lb of silvers for a match winning 67lb (little carp....hmmm).
March, I covered for the Fishing Tackle Warehouse team in the last round of the Viaduct, team draw gave me peg 40 on the Match Lake, I wasn't too unhappy, but I struggled and only returned 7 point from 18 in the section, no disaster but I feel I could have done a few more fish and a few extra points.
The 17th gave me a 'free' match on the Landsend Winter League, I would be on Lake 3 and joked I would be on peg 68, as usual, and hey ho I drew that peg. Anyways I put 23lb of assorted silvers on the scales with some carp for a total of 42lb+ and 4th on the lake and the lake's top silvers net, so a nice pick up there. (4 times I have had that peg, 4 times I have had the best silvers net on the lake, haha).
A week later I was at Sedges, peg 26 and was happy with that, but the joy never lasted as I had 60lb and finished maybe 6th on the day as James Withers won with 172lb from peg 40, he nearly got knocked back by 100lb as he was close to the limit.
30th, Todber, peg 52 on Hillview, I draw this area regularly and it is not an area of choice most of the time. But 60lb and a days fishing as the match was over for me at the draw. Homeground gave the best weights overall and the best silvers was 89lb of maggot feeder caught skimmers on Hillview.
April, well this month I have been a 3 times thus far.
Pawlett's annual Silvers match at The Sedges (7th April), had a tough section with some very good anglers who know the venue well. I drew peg 15. I wasn't feeling up to fishing but saw the day out and surprisingly finished 2nd overall on the day and best weight off Brick Lake with 35lb 4oz of skimmer and a nice little envelope. Keith Clapp won from Tile Lake with 14oz more than me....
The following weekend it was Summerhayes Longs. I have draw down on peg 19, never been that far down before and I had silvers specialist Roy Hughes on peg 20. I wanted to fish for silvers with worms and caster but that never happened. I had a good 2nd hour catching carp on pellets across and picked the odd carp for the last 4 hours, not many, but luckily enough that was good enough as my lowly 52lb was surprisingly enough to win the match and put some money in the wallet, but it was an enjoyable day trying to figure out how to get the most from the fish that were playing games on the day in that they would come to feed up in the water but couldn't get a bite shallow.
Lastly this weekend saw me on Viaduct's Easter Monday open match, peg 74, which was miles away from where the fish/weights have been coming from. It's a peg I really don't like but I gave it a go.
I landed a couple carp, lost 2 foul hookers and lost one when I shouldn't have (I should have added sections to follow it out on a run but I didn't and the hooklength broke). 6 decent skimmers and a small perch were my other fish. I tipped back my 2 carp (15lb) and silvers (10lb) for a DNW.
Other than at Sedges where it is deeper I have more or less been using DT Floats F1/Silvers in 0.3g for the silvers and Slim P's in 0.2 and 0.4g for my carp-type fishing and I cannot recommend them enough, great floats.
Now the spring has arrived I do hope to get out on the bank a bit more and am looking forward to a few matches I have booked in for the rest of 2019. But I am more looking forward to a couple weekends away with the wife, especially BST Hyde Park and Madness in Taunton in July.
Maybe, just maybe, will I begin to start blogging regular.

Catch Up -- White Acres Maver Fest and Summerhaye's Winners Match
Not blogged recently for various reasons, but thought I would give a quick round up of the last few weeks.
From the 1st to the 5th of October myself and Jamie Parkhouse fished the Maver Festival down at White Acres, I was well up for this and although not expecting to do well, I hoped I could learn a few things to take into 2019 and hopefully a couple more festivals down in Cornwall. This would be only my 2nd main 5 day festival there but you never know how things can turn out.
It all started badly when I got to Exeter and remembered I had left my roller bag at home but after a bit of Facebook help and a bit of kindness from my lovely Mother-in-Law I managed to get my rollers before the festival. Thanks to my sponsor, Dean Townshend and Jonny Kirkton for their help in this.
It was also a chance to meet a few of the DT Floats lads, nice to meet you guys.
Day One, Porth. Peg 34.
My favourite day of the week, I love Porth (except the walks...)
I set up a long range method rod (mistake), a short chuck feeder and a couple pole rigs where it was top 3 plus a short 4 deep from 5m out to 14.5m.
I fed a couple balls of groundbait at 6m and half a dozen at 14m at the start before beginning short where I put a couple pounds in the net in the first half hour, it then went a bit quiet before the odd spurt of fish here and there on the pole and short feeder kept me ticking over in the first 2hrs of the match.
A dead 2hrs didn't help before I finished quite well catching a few skimmers on the long line.
I gave the method 3 spells of 20mins or so during the day for nothing, which I knew would happen but Jamie called me and said to try it as he had a couple bream on his.
My 11lb 10oz was 3rd in section, 4oz behind second and Andy Power won the section with 15lb, so I would like to think that 2nd was definitely in grasp and I could have go closer to Andy.
The lake fished well with several 30lb+ nets and a few mid 20s from the far side.
Day Two, Bolingey. Peg 8.
I don't seem to draw on the smaller lake or the right hand arm here but tend to get in the deeper area of the back lake. So I wasn't shocked to see that same area in my mitt at the draw as it hadn't been a good area (6 to 10) for a while pre-festival and the other pegs in my section seemed better. But fish have fins.
I set up a method to the island, an edge rig for both margins (no signs of fish all day...) a deep pellet and shallow pellet rig for 14m in front and lastly a meat rig for 2+2 in two spots feeding differently.
I had Adrian Clark next to me on peg 7 so a bit of decent company.
I began on the topkit hoping for a quick carp or 2, but other than a couple missed bites (roach/carassio?) nothing was forth coming. So I tried the method to the island and soon and lost my 1st fish to a snag around 6ft off the island. A couple did follow and were netted ok.
The match was hard over our side and a lot of fish seemed foul hooked and fish losses were not uncommon.
Well I managed no fish shallow, no fish on the deep pellet but a few on meat and a few on the method to give me 81lb to Adrian's 73lb. This was worth 4th section, decent enough, but not as good as those along the back bank which had been decent.
Day Three, Pollawyn. Peg 21.
A good peg at times (as proved on the last couple of days and in the following Preston Fest) but it struggled on the first 2 days of the Maver with 6th in section the best it did.
I tried over to the island for 1 roach and 1 small ghost f1, but ended up catching skimmers, barbel, rudd, perch, crucians and odd small f1 mostly at 11m on worm over groundbait, I probably fed too much in hindsight.
No carp hooked in the mouth down my right edge, just one lost and one lost on the silvers rig, both foul hooked.
A few roach short and a couple barbel and skimmers on meat late gave me all of 18lb for section 6th, 23lb was worth a couple or 3 more points which was within grasp should I have stuck with the skimmers etc....but 90 mins spent carp chasing was a bad choice.
Day Four, Trewaters. Peg 37.
This peg won the lake the first couple days, but I am not in the class of Callum Dicks etc, but the Wednesday it only gave 17lb and peg 39 won and the pegs further up did better.
Anyways I began short on pellet for a 1st drop carassio. That was it for the opening hour, but a couple carp from there at the start of the 2nd hour was good in comparison to others on my lake.
It then died and during the day I picked up only 1 carp on the long pole just off the island, 1 on the meat line, nothing down my edges (again spent too long chasing fish not there towards the end), but managed to get a few on the feeder and I was winning the lake with 15 mins to go, then Jon Arthur and the guy opposite me had 4 and 5 carp respectively on their pellet feeders to push me down to 3rd. I had 36lb, Jon 39lb and the lad across 49lb, so a 3rd, not a disaster. But a few things learned for sure.
Day Five, Trelawny. Peg 8.
I wanted to be on Twin Oaks which is in with Trelawny, although I like Trelawny I seem to struggle as F1 fishing is something I just don't do.
Anyways I had fished this peg on the Sunday after I arrived (and several times over the years in hols),
I struggled then but caught some silvers and odd F1 while Jamie did a bit better using worms as opposed to my pellet and casters attack.
I set up a feeder, nowt on this. A shallow pellet rig (DT Pinger) for 14m, a shallow caster rig (DT Skittle) for 2+2, a deck rig for worm/caster and one for pellets on the deck to fish under the relevant shallow lines. A margin rig for both sides.....again used far too much for only a couple skimmers and one lost foul hooked carp.
The first hour was slow then I had a good couple hours catching F1s on the pellet long, I couldn't get anything but odd roach short on casters. It then died a dead so I faffed around trying to winkle out a few extra fish and hope for a proper carp. It didn't happen and I ended the match catching small F1s.
My 30lb was 5lb or so short of section 4th, instead I was ounced down to 7th. Andy Power won the section and lake with 157lb I think, brilliant to watch.
Again a few mistakes made, I should have taken meat as there were some carp caught on this bait all over the lake. Also I spent too long chasing lumps down my edges instead of keeping on doing what I was doing, but I figured I needed a couple of lumps to get top 3 in section.
I finished the week in 79th, not so bad but a couple better results would have pushed me further up the charts. I hope to rectify this next time I am there.
On the plus side I beat Jamie on both weight and position, I ended up 10lb or so and 23 places better off than my caravan buddy.
Last Sunday was the Summerhayes Winners match, with some decent money to go at I was hoping for a good day.
Anyway I will cut it ultra short, I had a mare of a day, drew 34, which was not near my favoured area and with Chris Boulton on 36 where he had won the week previous it looked like a neck ache day. Indeed it was as Chris won with 120lb, there were a couple 60lb+ nets filling the last two money places. So well done Chris and the others.
My match wasn't fun, I wanted to go home after an hour. I managed to snag my top 4 in the reeds, but got it back thanks to my cupping kit and jiggery pokery.
I lost a few fish off the hook by rushing and managed to lose a whole feeder set up when reeling in, the connector had come undone!!
But I did put 30lb on the scales as I stayed to weigh in. To my right Gareth Lennox tipped back a similar amount and Jack Billet went home with over an hour left, it had fished hard probably due to the amount of rain the day before.
Next up is Summerhaye's Silvers Winners Match this Sunday, I hope that goes better but there are some tidy silvers anglers fishing it so I will have to try my hardest....lol

Acorn and Summerhayes, 19th and 20th May 2018
I will start with Saturday's blog, well, little write up. Started like normal with an early arrival and a walk around the lakes plus a natter with a few guys before the draw. Well I picked peg 22, the left hand side of the back bank bridge. Reasonably happy I guess. But it hasn't been great in this series.
Got to my peg and plenty of scum on the water and a few fish present so things looked optimistic.
3 rigs, 2 for shallow (band and no band) using DT pingers and one for on the deck in a couple areas of my peg in the deeper water.
It didn't take long to set up as my shallow rigs were already on the topkits. I had micros, expanders and 6mm pellets on the side tray plus some corn, casters and groundbait.
I had Mark Bromsgrove down to my left and Lewis Walker to my right on the other side of the bridge.
Before the all in the wind picked up and my scum started to drift away to my left and the fish that were present seemed to follow, bugger. I hardly saw a fish in my peg for the most of the day and despite my efforts I never had a fish shallow and not a fish landed (did foul hook a couple) from the far side.
It was actually almost 4hrs into the match that I had my 1st carp over 6oz, that came down the edge to my left where the carp had only just started to come in but were spooky.
I had 2 from the deep water on expander and a couple more from the edge in the last half hour.
It was a dull day and it would have been a DNW could I have got my car out sensibly without causing hassle. During the match, Lewis had struggled to his last 2hrs and his neighbour, Bob Gullick similarly. Mark on peg 24 had caught most of the day from his peg with just the odd quiet spell.
Really it was only Paul Nichols on peg 5 who caught all day and won with 160lb+.
My weight was last in section but not last in weight on the day, 21lb something was my total, there was also 4 dnw's including Gabe on peg 40 where I never bothered to weigh in the last round.
2 more rounds to go, so again fingers crossed that I have a few fish to catch in at least one of those matches.

Sunday saw me head to Summerhayes, Pawlett did have a match on the 2 canals at Shiplate but expected almost every peg to be in and a struggle for most given the pressure and the warm conditions so I never booked in. Alas peg 1 on Westpool won the match, Mike Davis with 135lb, Nick Selway was 2nd with 85lb from peg 6 on the same, then it dropped off I believe.
Anyways back to Summerhayes, 13 or so fishing so after a cuppa and a chat the draw was made, only 2 balls left in the basket, one for me and one for Jamie Rich who was fresh from his 3 weeks in Thailand....but he wasn't tanned....hmmmm!! I told him to give a ball to me, I had peg 20, he had peg 17 so both reasonably happy. For company I had Roy Hughes on the flyer of an end peg (p23) with the wind pushing in there and on my left I had a guy called Steve on peg 18. Chris Boulton had turned up to fish and drew peg 2, I really fancied that peg to win and told him so, it looked full of fish and is a pretty decent peg at any time.
No rigs for silvers in this match, so my casters stayed in the bag and I didn't even bring any groundbait, I needed to catch a few carp just to convince myself I can occasionally do that.
My rigs were a couple shallow rigs, well the same 2 shallow rigs as Saturday, the banded one would do for tight over to the island at 13m and the un-banded one for down my left margin.
Lastly I had a meat rig for 2+2 off to my left, this rig was also used at the same distance feeding and using 6mm expander pellets, sort of a half hearted attempt incase the skimmers arrived.
My usual floats of DT Pingers for the shallow rigs and an RBS Margin for the meat rig.
My baits were meat, expander and 6mm pellets and some hemp. I also had some dead maggots to get rid of.
At the all in I started short for 15 minutes after depositing a full cup of hemp and meat off to my left and half a pot of expanders in front.
I only a liner to show over the meat line so I went across and was pleased to have a spurt of 8 or 9 carp in the next hour, but the problem was they were only little 1lb fish, or that is what I clicked. Roy was getting better fish on his paste rig and Jamie Rich was targeting silvers as usual and was getting one or 2 small fish.
Steve had started slowly and had a skimmer and 1 or 2 carp.
Things then began to get funny as the day got warmer the fish began to be a pain and whatever I tried to do I couldn't get them to settle and was suffering foul hookers and line bites. I did mug a couple, but even that was hard work.
I gave the far side a rest and tried the expander and never had a bite, I tried the meat line, I never had a bite, then the edge to my left, no bites....hmmm. I spent the next 90 minutes to 2 hrs trying to get a few fish in the net, but failed.
Steve was now down his left edge and was getting reasonable action from the carp and had also had a 2lb+ eel. Roy was still catching a few but missing lots of bites. He also been broken on a fish and last the elastic and rig.
With 2.5hrs to go I had just about double figures showing on my clicker and was beginning to think about spending a couple hours fishing caster, but I couldn't be arsed to get off my box.
Luckily I managed a run of fish shallow across, I had 8 or 9 more between 1 and 3lb which moved me up to around 30lb. Then I had a fish down my left edge which went under the empty pallet and out between the from legs of it, half expected the rig to snap I held my pole still and the fish waddled back and I duly netted it, lucky there.
I then tried back across but things were quiet so I gambled on my meat line, upping the feed a bit. This seemed to work as another spurt of fish, which were a little bigger on average made their way to the keepnets. I had been clicking then as 2 and 3lb but was unsure as it seemed a few felt heavier than their size, spawn methinks. So when my 1st net reached 40lb I started to use my 2nd net which coincided with the last hour or so.
Staying on the meat I began to foul hook a few in amongst the ones landed so I picked the margin rig and tried it over that line and the elastic was ripped out, ah shallow fish, but then I had ripple which obviously had helped as when it went flat calm I could only catch on the deck, once the ripple returned I caught shallow.
I also managed a couple fish from the edge but that was only as a rest from the 'catching' line..
I had also tried the expander line, one carp from there only. But I also tried expander shallow when I was missing bites on meat, this proved ok.
So the last hour was spent over the meat line up and down in the water and swapping between meat and expander on the hook and feeding a little every few seconds. I managed, I think, 10 carp in this time and my clicker showed 26lb, I had been clicking mostly 2lb for these fish. I was actually enjoying myself as the all out was called. My clickers showed 66lb though I did expect it to be a touch more.
Roy and Steve had beaten me I though and Adie said Chris on peg 2 had done really well.
I packed up and waited for the scales to arrive. I caught up with them at Jim Jenner who had been catching well down his edges and he put 91lb on the board which was the 3rd best weight to this point. Chris Boulton had 141lb from peg 2 and Mark Lehay 95lb from peg 4.
Wayne Michael had 26lb from peg 15 before Jamie Rich had 11lb 2oz of silvers, he guessed he had 7lb. You can read his blog here....
Steve was next on peg 18 and he totalled out at 89lb 14oz, I was sure I never had that. Certain. Well my 1st net (the 5hr 40lb one) weighed 66lb and ounces, while my last hour net (26lb clicked) topped 52lb. My total gave me 111lb 4oz. I was slightly embarrassed and felt like a tit to be fair. Those fish must have weighed 1lb or so heavier each than I thought.
Next up was Roy, now I was sure he had more than me as at times he was getting 3 to my 1. But he totalled 103lb 5oz which surprised me. That put me 2nd on the day and a bit of money for my efforts.
Next time I visit I may well fish for the carp....just for a change methinks.

Got to my peg and plenty of scum on the water and a few fish present so things looked optimistic.
3 rigs, 2 for shallow (band and no band) using DT pingers and one for on the deck in a couple areas of my peg in the deeper water.
It didn't take long to set up as my shallow rigs were already on the topkits. I had micros, expanders and 6mm pellets on the side tray plus some corn, casters and groundbait.
I had Mark Bromsgrove down to my left and Lewis Walker to my right on the other side of the bridge.

It was actually almost 4hrs into the match that I had my 1st carp over 6oz, that came down the edge to my left where the carp had only just started to come in but were spooky.
I had 2 from the deep water on expander and a couple more from the edge in the last half hour.
It was a dull day and it would have been a DNW could I have got my car out sensibly without causing hassle. During the match, Lewis had struggled to his last 2hrs and his neighbour, Bob Gullick similarly. Mark on peg 24 had caught most of the day from his peg with just the odd quiet spell.
Really it was only Paul Nichols on peg 5 who caught all day and won with 160lb+.
My weight was last in section but not last in weight on the day, 21lb something was my total, there was also 4 dnw's including Gabe on peg 40 where I never bothered to weigh in the last round.
2 more rounds to go, so again fingers crossed that I have a few fish to catch in at least one of those matches.

Sunday saw me head to Summerhayes, Pawlett did have a match on the 2 canals at Shiplate but expected almost every peg to be in and a struggle for most given the pressure and the warm conditions so I never booked in. Alas peg 1 on Westpool won the match, Mike Davis with 135lb, Nick Selway was 2nd with 85lb from peg 6 on the same, then it dropped off I believe.
Anyways back to Summerhayes, 13 or so fishing so after a cuppa and a chat the draw was made, only 2 balls left in the basket, one for me and one for Jamie Rich who was fresh from his 3 weeks in Thailand....but he wasn't tanned....hmmmm!! I told him to give a ball to me, I had peg 20, he had peg 17 so both reasonably happy. For company I had Roy Hughes on the flyer of an end peg (p23) with the wind pushing in there and on my left I had a guy called Steve on peg 18. Chris Boulton had turned up to fish and drew peg 2, I really fancied that peg to win and told him so, it looked full of fish and is a pretty decent peg at any time.

My rigs were a couple shallow rigs, well the same 2 shallow rigs as Saturday, the banded one would do for tight over to the island at 13m and the un-banded one for down my left margin.
Lastly I had a meat rig for 2+2 off to my left, this rig was also used at the same distance feeding and using 6mm expander pellets, sort of a half hearted attempt incase the skimmers arrived.
My usual floats of DT Pingers for the shallow rigs and an RBS Margin for the meat rig.
My baits were meat, expander and 6mm pellets and some hemp. I also had some dead maggots to get rid of.
At the all in I started short for 15 minutes after depositing a full cup of hemp and meat off to my left and half a pot of expanders in front.
I only a liner to show over the meat line so I went across and was pleased to have a spurt of 8 or 9 carp in the next hour, but the problem was they were only little 1lb fish, or that is what I clicked. Roy was getting better fish on his paste rig and Jamie Rich was targeting silvers as usual and was getting one or 2 small fish.
Steve had started slowly and had a skimmer and 1 or 2 carp.
Things then began to get funny as the day got warmer the fish began to be a pain and whatever I tried to do I couldn't get them to settle and was suffering foul hookers and line bites. I did mug a couple, but even that was hard work.
I gave the far side a rest and tried the expander and never had a bite, I tried the meat line, I never had a bite, then the edge to my left, no bites....hmmm. I spent the next 90 minutes to 2 hrs trying to get a few fish in the net, but failed.
Steve was now down his left edge and was getting reasonable action from the carp and had also had a 2lb+ eel. Roy was still catching a few but missing lots of bites. He also been broken on a fish and last the elastic and rig.
With 2.5hrs to go I had just about double figures showing on my clicker and was beginning to think about spending a couple hours fishing caster, but I couldn't be arsed to get off my box.
Luckily I managed a run of fish shallow across, I had 8 or 9 more between 1 and 3lb which moved me up to around 30lb. Then I had a fish down my left edge which went under the empty pallet and out between the from legs of it, half expected the rig to snap I held my pole still and the fish waddled back and I duly netted it, lucky there.
I then tried back across but things were quiet so I gambled on my meat line, upping the feed a bit. This seemed to work as another spurt of fish, which were a little bigger on average made their way to the keepnets. I had been clicking then as 2 and 3lb but was unsure as it seemed a few felt heavier than their size, spawn methinks. So when my 1st net reached 40lb I started to use my 2nd net which coincided with the last hour or so.
Staying on the meat I began to foul hook a few in amongst the ones landed so I picked the margin rig and tried it over that line and the elastic was ripped out, ah shallow fish, but then I had ripple which obviously had helped as when it went flat calm I could only catch on the deck, once the ripple returned I caught shallow.
I also managed a couple fish from the edge but that was only as a rest from the 'catching' line..
I had also tried the expander line, one carp from there only. But I also tried expander shallow when I was missing bites on meat, this proved ok.
So the last hour was spent over the meat line up and down in the water and swapping between meat and expander on the hook and feeding a little every few seconds. I managed, I think, 10 carp in this time and my clicker showed 26lb, I had been clicking mostly 2lb for these fish. I was actually enjoying myself as the all out was called. My clickers showed 66lb though I did expect it to be a touch more.
Roy and Steve had beaten me I though and Adie said Chris on peg 2 had done really well.
I packed up and waited for the scales to arrive. I caught up with them at Jim Jenner who had been catching well down his edges and he put 91lb on the board which was the 3rd best weight to this point. Chris Boulton had 141lb from peg 2 and Mark Lehay 95lb from peg 4.
Wayne Michael had 26lb from peg 15 before Jamie Rich had 11lb 2oz of silvers, he guessed he had 7lb. You can read his blog here....

Summerhayes Open, 25-03-18. Longs.
After deciding not to travel up to the Big One Show on Sunday, I was deliberating as to whether to go fishing or not, but with the weather looking like we may see a decent day weather wise, at least no frosts and some sunshine. So late Saturday night it was a choice of trying to get on to a match, I had 3 choices, Trinity Woodlands, Shiplate Westpool or Summerhayes. Summerhayes it was as even if you are not in contention of a pick up you usually get a few bites and fish.
Me and the wife loaded the car and made our way over to the lakes, pretty certain it was a 9am draw and fish 10-4pm. A few guys present and we ended up with half a dozen or so, not great but that seems to often be the case on a lot of matches that, unless they are leagues, then numbers can be varied to say the least. Anyways we had a nice cuppa thanks to Pete and a bit of a chat before the draw was done, a rover match today on Longs. I drew the golden peg, pick 3, then drew my pick, pick 3, so I would have the golden peg pot which can be won if the overall or silvers is won from the peg. The others all chose pegs in the 30's alongside the road, I fancied the far side as it is more comfy to ship and I would have a bit of room, not always good at times. I picked peg 12, this gave me 18m to the far side so that option was ruled out as I didn't quite fancy a day of fishing up to an island which is what I seemed to have done all over winter, plus the breeze was tricky.
Once at the peg it looked ok, no signs of fish except the odd plippy roach.
Box and attachments sorted, some groundbait mixed and expanders pumped I went about setting up my rigs for the day, a DT F1/Silvers in 0.3g for the silvers was assembled using a 0.10 hooklength and a b911f1 hook in size 18. I would fish this in 2 spots in front, 5m using micros as feed and 9m using groundbait, but enough on them as the wind got up and I couldn't see the float in the reflections on the water.
My 2nd rig was for the topkit down each edge, meat left, dead maggots right, my usual DT Big D in 0.2g was made up but went untroubled during the day, so no more on that then.
Lastly I set up a DT RBS Open float to fish a few spots, 10 o'clock direction at 9m, right margin-ish at 6m and by empty peg 13 at 6m. There were other spots I could have tried, but didn't as the depth was standard to within an inch or so. Hooklength was 0.12 to a 16 B911 hook.
On the whistle I potted in my silver's baits and a 1/4 cup of hard 4's plus a pinch of micros and a couple 4mm expanders off in the 10 o'clock direction. I fed my 2 edges for the fish to find another day....
I began in front for the silvers, that lasted not long when the ripple arrived.
So out to my left at 9m and I soon had a few indications and a 1lb skimmer and then a 2lb carp.
A couple more carp of similar stamp and another 1.5lb skimmer followed in the initial hour. Not too bad. But I could see Martin Addicot opposite hooking carp regularly, but it turned out he lost most.
The second hour was quiet with only 2 small silvers netted and lost 1 foul hooked carp. There were still indications so there were fish around.
Hour 3 was a little better and gave me 3 carp, the largest perhaps 5lb and another nice skimmer and a blade skimmer. My carp clicker was on 21lb at this point. So far all of my fish had come at 9m off in the 10 o'clock direction. It seemed that I could only catch on 4mm expander over toss potted micros and hard 4s, meat and maggots gave me less bites.
At this point bites began to slow again so I tried putting a small helping in the deeper water away from my right margin at 6m. Ten minutes passed and I had a bite, a skimmer of 2lb was duly netted, that was my only bite there for the rest of the day, so a passer by methinks.
Back out to my 'catching zone' and I had another spurt of carp and put perhaps 15lb in the net. But again the bites would fade, another re-feed and another look on each of the edges with no joy, so I deposited 2 hard balls of groundbait off the leg of peg 13, I laced these with hard 4s and a few bits of meat.
The 5th hour was productive from both the 9m line and down by the empty peg 13, I did bump a couple from the empty peg area, perhaps me being too quick off the mark in trying to stop them snagging me, but I put another 8 or 9 carp and a single small skimmer in the net during this spell, my clicker showing 57lb. Plus perhaps 10lb of silvers in the other net.
The final hour came and I started it off with a 3lb fish from my 9m line, so I sent the wife off to get another net as I forgot if the limit was 70 or 80lb. Bad choice as 3rd net syndrome kicked in and I only managed to lose 2 carp once the net went in, only in the last 5 minutes was it that I put 2 carp in the 2nd carp net before the all out was called.
I packed away, rather quickly my missus said, and got the kit back to the car before helping with the scales. Bill Hopping asked what I had and I told him just over 60lb of carp and 10lb of silvers, he replied I would win easily with that. I wasn't sure as Martin Addicot had been playing fish all day, but as it turned out he had lost around 20 fish including some at the net.
We weighed everyone in and I was last, my clicker was close with my carp totalling 62lb and 14oz while my 10lb 1oz was my silvers. So that meant I had won, topped the silvers and I was on the golden peg. Nice.
Back at the hut and the pay outs done plus a bit of a chit chat and a cuppa.
Bill was happy to sneak 2nd as the silvers went to Martin with 3-15. He was more glad that he managed a fish on his beloved paste, when that works properly he becomes the man to beat at the venue.
The top 3 were:
1st -Lee Williams 72-15 (10-01 silvers) peg 12 (qualified for both overall and silvers Champion matches in October)
2nd - Martin Addicot 37-09 (3-12 silvers) peg 31
3rd - Bill Hopping 19-02 (2-11 silvers) peg 37
In hindsight I could have set up a shallow rig and perhaps a depth rig for banded pellet as my bites at times were less than positive. I never had a bite on 6mm expander, maggot and pinkie and only 1 caro and 1 skimmer on meat. So it was for sure a pellet day.
Not sure where I am next (long) weekend. Friday at Acorn there is a silvers match in memory of Charlie Barnes, Landsend Saturday, Summerhayes or Landsend on Sunday. Viaduct has matches everyday from Thurs until Monday.

Acorn/Clevedon FWAC Blind Pairs and Summerhayes Longs Open, 30/12/17 and 31/12/17
A quick round up of the couple of matches I fished on the weekend.
Saturday was Clevedon FWAC's 'Boxing Day' blind pairs, this was opened up to all and after my car had it's MOT I had to decide what to do on Saturday and this came up, but I could not initially get on but then a text from Adie said I could as someone had dropped out. Bargain.
Only 10 of us fished it and the winds were rather strong, but dropped from 40+mph to 20-something during the day. I hadn't fished it for a long while but I do keep eyes on the results and it has generally been tricky going and the fish have seemed to moved around a bit, except the island pegs (1 to 5) where I was sure the winner would come from and where I fancied (we had pegs 2 and 4 in the match).
Anyways a bit of a natter to those I know and those I didn't before the draw was done. I pulled peg 40, bridge peg by the car...short walk. They have also cleared the hedge and filled the ditch that ran parallel with the car park so it is more exposed but looks a lot neater.
I fancied it for a few fish but got told that area was pants mid-week and a few dnw's in that area were made. My partner for the day was Andy Devereaux on peg 31.
Bait was maggots, expanders, micros and corn, plus some bread for dobbing.
3 rigs, 1 for anywhere from topkit to 9 or 10m where I would feed and fish maggots (DT 0.3g F1/Silvers float, 0.10>20f1 hook). The 2nd rig for dobbing bread along the bridge which went biteless (DT RBS Open water 0.2g, 0.12>16b911), lastly a shallower rig which was for the far side and my margins both sides where corn over micros would be used (0.1 DT Pinger 0.14>16b911).
Well to summarise the day, it was bloody hard for all. I began slowly, like everyone but I started to get the odd decent roach on my topkit and after an hour or so I had 4 or 5 for maybe 1lb.
The second hour gave me a 1.5lb carp and odd baby roach from maggots halfway along the bridge.
3rd hour gave nothing except 1 small skimmer on the topkit.
4th hour gave me another 2lb carp from next to the bridge on maggots and a skimmer from here.
Last hour produced a couple nice roach and in the final moments a decent f1 on corn over micros at 13m in front. I reckoned on 6lb plus a few roach/skimmers and 1 perch of 1oz.
Elsewhere the 2 island pegs produced a few carp and Mark Walsh and Mike Owens had 23lb+ nets. The rest of us struggled more so and Adie on peg 37 had 1 roach from his 4 bites all day.
Mark Bromsgrove had a tench of 1oz in his 4lb catch, which was nice.
I totalled 10-14 for 3rd on the day.
Top pairs were:
1st- total 27-12 were Mark Bromsgrove (4-00) and Mike Owen (23-12)
2nd - total 25-15 were Mark Walsh (23-07) and Matt Roden (2-08)

Sunday saw me head to Summerhayes for their open on Longs, which turned out to be a rover.
I only decided to go as Gabe said he would see me there....a little more sleep would have been more sensible.
Anyways only 8 of us and I would wait until there was 2 balls left in the tub before my go....Gabe, who was running late, would have the last one. 1st pick and last pick were those left, yep I chose last choice. Pete phoned Mr Skarba and he put himself on peg 37 when he arrived. I fancied peg 11 or 12 as there seemed to be some fish there to say the least. But that area went, I chose peg 7, which in hindsight was not too sensible as during the day the sun came out and the winds increased leaving me not being able to see my floats in most areas and the areas I could were those ii struggled to hold the pole....twat, think next time...!!
Anyway I enjoyed my 4.5hrs fishing in the most part as you can get a few bites at this venue and so it proved, obviously not enough as I chucked back half and hour early. Peg 11 went off like a train and had 16 carp in the first 45 minutes to an hour. As had Martin Addicott around in the 30's somewhere.
My 1st carp came after 20 minutes on dobbed bread, after 90 minutes I had 5 or 6 on this, plus 2 little skimmers.
That was that on the bread. Then the wind and sun came and I never had anything for a couple hours, peg 11 kept catching but I was enjoying myself. I then picked up a couple carp on maggots where I had dobbed bread earlier when the wind dropped for a couple minutes.
I then tried down to my left edge by some reeds and netted 4 carp from here on maggots and a few chunky roach. I had nothing on maggots short but had a run of fish down my right edge by the empty platform on corn over micros, well I say run of fish, it was 4 and lost 2.
When I packed up I had 16 carp (40lb maybe) and 3lb or so of silvers.
I loaded my car and spoke to Gabe, he had around 30 carp and some silvers but also chucked back as 138lb and 101lb were top weights I found out later on from him. Rob Birch on peg 1 or 2 had 4 carp and a few bits, a couple others struggled too. But everyone had some bites and a few fish.
My 3 rigs were all on DT RBS Opens in 0.3g and to 0.12 hooklengths and size 16 hooks.
Bait was simple maggots, micros, corn and bread, I did mix some groundbait and had some casters but the wildlife were fed them.
It was nice to get back there and have a few elastic pullers, but I must remember that to face the sun and wind in the winter is rather schoolboy, I should have learned that I wouldn't have seen anything in those conditions.
Next weekend is the next round of the Landsend So-Simple Winter League. The weather looks cooler and I am on the Speci Lake.

Only 10 of us fished it and the winds were rather strong, but dropped from 40+mph to 20-something during the day. I hadn't fished it for a long while but I do keep eyes on the results and it has generally been tricky going and the fish have seemed to moved around a bit, except the island pegs (1 to 5) where I was sure the winner would come from and where I fancied (we had pegs 2 and 4 in the match).
Anyways a bit of a natter to those I know and those I didn't before the draw was done. I pulled peg 40, bridge peg by the car...short walk. They have also cleared the hedge and filled the ditch that ran parallel with the car park so it is more exposed but looks a lot neater.
I fancied it for a few fish but got told that area was pants mid-week and a few dnw's in that area were made. My partner for the day was Andy Devereaux on peg 31.

3 rigs, 1 for anywhere from topkit to 9 or 10m where I would feed and fish maggots (DT 0.3g F1/Silvers float, 0.10>20f1 hook). The 2nd rig for dobbing bread along the bridge which went biteless (DT RBS Open water 0.2g, 0.12>16b911), lastly a shallower rig which was for the far side and my margins both sides where corn over micros would be used (0.1 DT Pinger 0.14>16b911).
Well to summarise the day, it was bloody hard for all. I began slowly, like everyone but I started to get the odd decent roach on my topkit and after an hour or so I had 4 or 5 for maybe 1lb.
The second hour gave me a 1.5lb carp and odd baby roach from maggots halfway along the bridge.
3rd hour gave nothing except 1 small skimmer on the topkit.
4th hour gave me another 2lb carp from next to the bridge on maggots and a skimmer from here.
Last hour produced a couple nice roach and in the final moments a decent f1 on corn over micros at 13m in front. I reckoned on 6lb plus a few roach/skimmers and 1 perch of 1oz.
Elsewhere the 2 island pegs produced a few carp and Mark Walsh and Mike Owens had 23lb+ nets. The rest of us struggled more so and Adie on peg 37 had 1 roach from his 4 bites all day.
Mark Bromsgrove had a tench of 1oz in his 4lb catch, which was nice.
I totalled 10-14 for 3rd on the day.

1st- total 27-12 were Mark Bromsgrove (4-00) and Mike Owen (23-12)
2nd - total 25-15 were Mark Walsh (23-07) and Matt Roden (2-08)

Sunday saw me head to Summerhayes for their open on Longs, which turned out to be a rover.
I only decided to go as Gabe said he would see me there....a little more sleep would have been more sensible.
Anyways only 8 of us and I would wait until there was 2 balls left in the tub before my go....Gabe, who was running late, would have the last one. 1st pick and last pick were those left, yep I chose last choice. Pete phoned Mr Skarba and he put himself on peg 37 when he arrived. I fancied peg 11 or 12 as there seemed to be some fish there to say the least. But that area went, I chose peg 7, which in hindsight was not too sensible as during the day the sun came out and the winds increased leaving me not being able to see my floats in most areas and the areas I could were those ii struggled to hold the pole....twat, think next time...!!

My 1st carp came after 20 minutes on dobbed bread, after 90 minutes I had 5 or 6 on this, plus 2 little skimmers.
That was that on the bread. Then the wind and sun came and I never had anything for a couple hours, peg 11 kept catching but I was enjoying myself. I then picked up a couple carp on maggots where I had dobbed bread earlier when the wind dropped for a couple minutes.
I then tried down to my left edge by some reeds and netted 4 carp from here on maggots and a few chunky roach. I had nothing on maggots short but had a run of fish down my right edge by the empty platform on corn over micros, well I say run of fish, it was 4 and lost 2.
When I packed up I had 16 carp (40lb maybe) and 3lb or so of silvers.
I loaded my car and spoke to Gabe, he had around 30 carp and some silvers but also chucked back as 138lb and 101lb were top weights I found out later on from him. Rob Birch on peg 1 or 2 had 4 carp and a few bits, a couple others struggled too. But everyone had some bites and a few fish.
My 3 rigs were all on DT RBS Opens in 0.3g and to 0.12 hooklengths and size 16 hooks.
Bait was simple maggots, micros, corn and bread, I did mix some groundbait and had some casters but the wildlife were fed them.
It was nice to get back there and have a few elastic pullers, but I must remember that to face the sun and wind in the winter is rather schoolboy, I should have learned that I wouldn't have seen anything in those conditions.
Next weekend is the next round of the Landsend So-Simple Winter League. The weather looks cooler and I am on the Speci Lake.

Catch-Up....Mid August til End of Sept
Following on from my last blog, Tony's Float match at Sedges. I have not had the time, or inclination to get back to writing a blog each week, life issues and a much needed rest from it has suited me.
But a quick round up of the last 6 weeks or more is a pointer, I hope, for me, to get back into the swing of things.
Anyways. We had a weeks family holiday down at White Acres on Bank Holiday week, I fished the 3 matches there during the week. The Monday gold match on Twin Oaks saw me pick a less-than-good peg, peg 1. I managed a few late on and just missed out on a pick-up.
The rover saw me sit on Acorn and it never really got going, I couldn't find any carp at all. I ended up 21st. But I think that only 3 or 4 half decent carp from a top 4 finish, around 15lb.
Friday's Bolingey match put me on peg 16, an ok peg, but although I had a few carp, 14 or 15 of the smallest carp the lake holds and chucked back around 60lb.
Into Sept and I fished Todber for Pawlett's Day-Out, the whole complex switched off and I drew ok in 44, no island chuck, but had a reasonably enjoyable day and 40-something pounds. Lots of bites there, nice fishing even on the less-than-good days.
The following day I guested on PSV's match at Viaduct on Campbell, I drew 132. Didn't want to fish for carp, but it is not a great silvers peg. Had 4 carp in 4 drops on 4 different rig/lines. But tried to get some decent skimmers and tench. Didn't have any tench and strung a few skimmers and roach together for 4th in the silvers. 19lb 6oz I weighed and lost a few late 'jumpers' in the last 15 minutes. Mark Radford won overall and Matt Williams won the silvers with 25lb.
A Thursday Viaduct Cost-Cutter, after a week not fishing, saw me fish peg 99 on Cary, I went for silvers but found no quality skimmers or tench. 15lb or so of palm sized skimmers and roach was nowhere overall, but was 3rd on the lake in the silvers and missed a pick-up by 1 place.
The following day I went to Summerhayes, the wife tagged along to keep me company, but she slept...It was a silvers match, but I managed about 40 carp on the light kit. I did scrape 9lb something for again 1 out of the money (a few roach that fell off cost me).
Saturday the 23rd saw me (and Mrs) head to Todber, a slow start for carp, for most people really, saw me spend too long fishing for them throughout the day from my peg, peg 61 on Hillview. Fished for the silvers on and off, more so later on in the match. I put 16lb+ in the net and yet again 1 place off an envelope. 2nd on Hillview in the silvers. I did manage 35lb of carp as well, my 61lb was not too bad in the scheme of things.
The 24th, last Sunday, I had a Pawlett match at Viaduct. Cary and Campbell.....wanted the latter, got the former. Didn't fancy my peg, peg 85 for either a silvers or carp placing. So a day of faffing around saw me land 2 carp in the last hour, 18lb. But I put some silvers in the net on and off, between the times I tried for a carp as only 2 guys I could see were getting them. I had 23lb of roach and skimmers short and 3rd in the silvers with Cary giving the top-3 in the silvers (paid one only). Shawn Kittridge won the silvers with 31lb mostly on 6mm pellet over 4's from peg 78. The top-2 overall came from Campbell, which never gave much in the way of silvers.
So that leaves me to this point in time. After a frustrating few weeks where I haven't had my mind in the game properly, I do hope to get back into a clearer head situation and get back to my simple basics.
This Sunday sees me fishing the 1st round of Viaduct's Silvers League. I have never fished this series and it has 54 of the area's best anglers taking part and me.........My aim is to finish 54th or better!!

Summerhayes Open, 11-6-17. Willow and Lily Ponds.
I decided at 9am on Sunday morning to go and fish this match, the sprogs didn't want to do anything so I quickly loaded the car, chopped some meat and made sure my pellet tubs were topped up. Thankfully the rigs from Acorn the day previous would suffice.
Arrived at the fishery by 9:30 and said a few hellos to a few guys including some of the PSV chaps on Sellicks. Paid my dues and waited for the draw. I didn't want to be on Willow as although there are more silvers in there I fancied catching a few carp from Lily, I had never been on Willow before and Lily has been ok for me. But 18 or so fishing and top 4 and 2 silvers payouts, common sense told me that Willow would be a more viable option for a pick-up.
Onto the draw and the Golden Peg was drawn and was peg 5 on Lily, I managed to pick 3 from the end and had Willow peg 11, no idea what it looked like at that point. But I got to my peg and recognised it from Jamie Rich's blog. I had that man opposite me on peg 7, he offered a side bet on silvers, like a numpty who wanted to fish for carp I agreed...!!
For bait I had a few pints of maggots, some 6mm pellets, a few 8mm pellets, 8mm meat and a couple pints of micros. I also stuck some expanders in water as I hadn't prepared any and I had yet another ringers pellet pump die on me last week..!!
Rigs were simply, 1 edge rig, a DT RBS in 0.3g on 0.18>0.14>16 B911, for 8m to my left around 1m out from the bank, I intended to fish here using banded pellets, this same rig done for the same distance off to my left a little and near a small island. The 2nd rig was a meat rig for 2+2 in front and 2+1 to my left on a point of the near bank, using the same DT RBS but with a size 14 B911. The water levels are down and on plumbing up this meat line and the pellet line off the island I felt plenty of roots and rocks etc, this meant I couldn't fish as close as I fancied.
Lastly I set up a lighter maggot rig using a DT Pencil in 0.4g on 0.14>0.13>Guru LWG size 18, but on strongish elastic, for silvers at 8m in front and off in the 2 o'clock direction, but these spots would be fed with various amounts of micros and a few maggots. Any further in front and me and Jamie would have almost been touching pole tips.
That maggot rig also would double up as a topkit rig to feed heavy-ish with maggots, hoping for some eels as they can be of a decent size. I also hoped for maybe a tench or a few stamp roach/rudd from here.
At the all-in I fed my left edge and 2 spots with micros for silvers, I decided not to initially feed my meat lines or the island, instead I chose to begin on the short meat line just using a toss-pot.
Not much happened for 10 mins, Jamie had a couple skimmers and one or 2 carp had been caught.
So out over my silvers line in front and I kept bumping plippy roach and rudd, so a quick elastic change to a 4-6 maybe would alter this, but I didn't fancy catching 1/2oz bits all day.
Jamie soon had his 1st accidental carp, this made me come off my silvers and try near the island, again feeding via a tosspot, 1st drop I missed a bite but as I re-lowered the rig back in I was into my 1st carp, a nice 6lb fish to boot.....back out and nothing...!! That was the opening hour, 1 carp and a few small silvers. I began to feed my topkit line heavy and irregularly with maggots.
The second hour was another quiet one, peg 9 was catching a few fish as was Nigel on peg 13.
Jamie at this point had a dozen small skimmers and a few roach. I was still unsure about which route to go down, try for the silvers or fish for the carp. Nobody was really flying along on the carpy side of things but I knew the silvers would need a proper effort to catch enough should they be feeding well for someone. But after Jamie's slowish start I wasn't too sure how much would be needed to get a quid off Mr Rich, 8lb perhaps?
Anyways I managed a few plippy silvers and 2 carp I actually attempted to catch on the meat line to my left. But as time went on I could see pegs 13, 9 and peg 1 catching a few, I couldn't see peg 3. Lily lake looked slow and not many fish had been caught and a few guys had walked the banks, Steve Jackson and Ray Wickham both packed up early, they were not to only ones on that lake to do so.
The 3rd and 4th hours were a bit better as I had been feeding my topkit line and I tried there and low and behold after a few plips I began to get a few better 3oz fish, just odd ones and they would be interrupted by carp, as were Jamie's silvers, his silvers were smaller fish not skimmers also.
My carp clicker was on 24lb at this point and I knew at least pegs 13 and 9 had double that, so really other than for resting my silver's lines, the carp fishing exploits had stopped.
I was occasionally trying the longer lines and I would only get a few more plippy fish and odd carp.
I had also upped the feed on one of my silvers lines hoping the tench and better skimmers would move in, preferably not the carp.
The 5th hour was decent enough on the silvers front, mostly on the topkit where I was getting a fish a bung and a couple may have been 6 to 8oz, most were 2-3oz, I also had a few fall off and back into the water!! But every now and then I would be attached to a carp which would take a bit of time to land, but I never lost one, just minutes I could be fishing for silvers. I did have a nice looking 4lb ghostie.
The odd occasion I would try either of my meat lines, more hoping for a bigger fish of the non carp type, I would miss a bite or land a carp. Jamie was also getting the run around from carp on his silvers rigs. But had started to catch a little better on the silvers front and as far as I was concerned I would be giving him a shiny pound coin.
The last hour was really quiet for me on the silvers side of things, perhaps 7 or 8 small roach/rudd but I did have a couple or so carp taking my carp tally to around 30lb as my clicker said. (some carp were 1.5lb fish) and I had 8 or 9 carp come the end of the match to go with perhaps 2.5lb of silvers, maybe 50 silvers, no skimmers at all, just rudd and roach.
I packed my gear away, half of Lily already had ages ago. It didn't take long and I caught up with the weigh-in as we got to Jamie, he had 27lb of carp but 5lb 2oz of silvers, definitely more than what I had, but he said he thought I had more and it could be closer than my guesstimate. But I gave him the quid as promised.
Peg 9 put a good 50-odd pounds on the scales before they got to me. Silvers first and surprisingly 4lb 3oz of bits and bobs was my total. Ady asked did I want to weigh my carp and I insisted I may as well as I'd been there 6hrs. 33lb 11oz worth, plus my 4lb 3oz, which at that point put me 2nd but I knew Nigel on peg 13 had a good 60lb+ at least and I presumed somebody on Lily would have been better off than that.
Nigel weighed in 61lb 14oz total. Onto the few left on Lily and Glynn Wickham said he'd had a big eel and been bitten off by a couple big eels, plus he had 3 or 4 actual silvers. He totalled 3lb 9oz of silvers. So I had 2nd in silvers. Nobody had more than 25lb of carp either on Lily.
I went off and loaded my car before the results were given.

So I actually picked up 3rd overall in the monies as it was worth more than 2nd in the silvers, so Glynn got something back for his decent, near 3lb, eel.
Myself and Jamie both agreed that perhaps we could have fished for the carp and possibly threatened the top 2, as there seemed to be plenty around come the 2nd half of the match, actually every time I tried my 2 meat lines I would get indications and often a fish or 2. But none the less it was a nice day in decent weather with good company as usual.
It was a low weight (for the lake) affair in the PSV match with 70lb-ish winning by Alan Healey on peg 23 Sellicks.
Next up for me at the moment is Pawlett's next match at Sedges on Sunday, just got to decide, silvers or carp, haha. I may do the MMT at Viaduct on Sunday, just have to see how I feel.

Nigel weighed in 61lb 14oz total. Onto the few left on Lily and Glynn Wickham said he'd had a big eel and been bitten off by a couple big eels, plus he had 3 or 4 actual silvers. He totalled 3lb 9oz of silvers. So I had 2nd in silvers. Nobody had more than 25lb of carp either on Lily.
I went off and loaded my car before the results were given.

Myself and Jamie both agreed that perhaps we could have fished for the carp and possibly threatened the top 2, as there seemed to be plenty around come the 2nd half of the match, actually every time I tried my 2 meat lines I would get indications and often a fish or 2. But none the less it was a nice day in decent weather with good company as usual.
It was a low weight (for the lake) affair in the PSV match with 70lb-ish winning by Alan Healey on peg 23 Sellicks.
Next up for me at the moment is Pawlett's next match at Sedges on Sunday, just got to decide, silvers or carp, haha. I may do the MMT at Viaduct on Sunday, just have to see how I feel.

Summerhayes Open, Longs, 21-05-17
I wasn't planning on going anywhere on Sunday, but the weather looked dry and I had a last minute change of heart on Saturday afternoon.
So arriving at the lakes I found there was a few of the regular faces in attendance including Gabe Skarba and Glenn Bailey. The lakes didn't look too fishy to be fair, just the odd one showing themselves and a few looked like they were trying to spawn. A natter with a couple guys and then it was the 10am draw. Gabe's better half drew the golden peg, peg 10, which Gary Coton drew, she drew Gabe peg 4. I did mention I though he'd do well from there as the margins are nice on that peg.
Me, well I drew peg 33 on the road bank, I thought it was a good silvers peg but I wasn't sure that I wanted to fish for them as the weather seemed too bright and there were signs of skimmers still splashing down my left edge.
I had Ray Wickham to my right and to my left was Craig and further round John Barker. The only others I could see were Jamie Cook and Gary Coton over on pegs 12 and 10.
5 rigs made up today, all on 0.18 to 0.14 hooklengths and size 16 hooks.
1st rig was my left edge, bit too deep really and to be fair I never fancied to, it was a DT Big D in 0.3g, feed was meat and meat for the hook......never had a bite!!
2nd rig was using the same float patter etc and I fed maggots and fished bunches of them or meat. That was used down my left edge, again it was deep and I managed to fish it by pulling up the slope a little, the top of the slope was a shallow 6 to 8 inches deep.
Third rig was a rig for maggots over maggots at 2+2 to my left and expander over micro to the right at the same distance. Float was a DT Pencil in 0.4g in around 4.5ft of water.
The last 2 rigs were for across to the far bank in 2 spots, the 1st area was slightly to the right at 14m and the 2nd spot was at the same distance to my left on the corner of the bay, I did fancy 16m into the bay but the wind was an arse and I knew I would have struggled, should have chucked a method I suppose....hindsight!!
Anyways I had a DT Pellet Pinger in 0.1g for up to 18" deep (I started on a Skittle float but it got trashed early on by a foul-hooked carp). The last rig was an RBS Open water float in 0.3g, Both of these rigs were using 6 and 8mm pellets in a band.
The all-in was called at 11am and I started across after feeding both 2+2 lines, but the following 60 minutes went without much action, a couple lost foul hooked fish on the deep rig across were lost and a couple small rudd came to maggots at 2+2. Nobody seemed to catching much, Ray on 31 had a couple skimmers and some bits but that was it really, I think Craig had one or 2 carp.
The second hour was a bit better, I stayed across to the reeds, it was hard-ish work in the right to left wind, but by swapping between the deep and shallow rigs using 8mm pellets in the band.
I found that by toss potting 6mm pellets on the deep rig and using a catty for the shallow rig, it wasn't manic fishing and I was still losing the odd foul hooked fish but I put a dozen of the lake's smaller carp in the keepnet, my clicker went from zero to 17lb in that hour.
The 3rd hour came and went with my only action coming from the 2+2 lines where I lost a couple skimmers and had a couple roach to 4oz. My far line (the right side one) had fish spawning and a couple of moorhens that were not bothered my pole tip being inches from them. I did lose a couple mad foul hookers that went steaming off to my right into a clump of reeds that looked like they could be a pain as the carp could get around them. I trashed on rig and got what I thought was a rig back in tact....It wasn't in tact as that rig snapped on the next carp I hooked at around 14:30.....ooopps.
Meanwhile Ray had a couple silvers including a lumpy perch but also managed a few carp by accident. I could also see peg 19 catching a few fish, not sure what they were though.
Craig on peg 36 was starting to get the odd one from both of his margins.
Into the last 90 minutes and my clicker showed 22lb and I was on 14 carp but was doing ok comparing myself to the 6 peeps I could see from my peg. But my carp were rather small and averaging less than 2lb each, they normally run on average nearer 3lb or so.
I started to feed the micros line with meat by hand as I had a few bubbles and the maggots and expanders were not producing.
A look to my right hand edge gave me a fish of 3lb right away but it was a false dawn as I never had another bite from there.
A look on my 2+2 micros, now meat, line again gave me hope as I had a 2.5lber on my first drop, again my only bite from there.
So the last spell of the match was spent up and down across to the reeds, I managed a few more on each rig, but the spawning fish were not helping matters, neither the wind. At the all out I had 22 carp and my clicker showed 36lb, so a small average as 22 fish should be nearer 60lb or maybe 70lb. Oh well.
Gear packed away and in the car and the weigh-in was underway, I saw Gabe put 25 carp and 7lb of silvers on the scales to have a likely winning weight of 91lb and a few ounces, he caught across on maggot over micro and a few edge fish on the same late on. A few lower weights and non-weighing anglers came and went before we had a 47lb net from Glenn Bailey down on peg 15, again that looked a framing place, I certainly never had that but thought Craig may be close to it, but he insisted he had about 35lb. A few silvers nets came and went before my 22 carp and 14oz of silvers gave me a total of 37lb 12oz with only Craig to register on the sheet. He had 3 weighs....2 of which were single carp still in the keepnet, but he totted up 35lb 2oz which saw me pick up 3rd overall.
It had fished really tricky for everyone and again a poxy windy match didn't help at all, but still it was sunny and warm.

Summerhayes 50/50 match, Longs Lake, 17-4-17
On the bank holidays Summerhayes have started to do a 50/50 match at a cost of £26 as opposed to the usual £21, well I think I am not so keen on this idea as you pay your dues, which basically puts £9.50 or so into each pot of pay-outs (carp only, silvers only) but you cannot double bubble.
So in reality you have 3 choices, 2 are straight forward in that you fish for carp or silvers for the 6hrs, the 3rd option is a little more of a chancer in that you could set your stall out for the hypothetical perfect match, catch a few quick carp, then some silvers, then plunder the carp and hope you have covered your arse by securing a pick-up place in either or both (no double bubble). This option for the most part, as I see it at Summerhayes, would more than often leave you a little behind the pace in either category, especially at this venue where the carp are averaging 2-3lb or so and the silvers is often won with about 10-13lb. At some venues, Viaduct springs to mind, you catch plenty of silvers on carp lines and vice-versa and people frame in both with 'accidentals' on reasonably regular basis.
I don't know, I need to get my mind around it, or rather the fact you are chucking a tenner in a pot you have no intentions of trying for maybe? If you could double up then it would all make sense.
Maybe we need to start going down the optional silvers route at matches more so? So rather than £20 all in, say make it £15 and £5 optional or even do a 50/50 split, peg fee and two equal optionals? Actually this is something I have been thinking about more recently, on clubbies I can see the default and no double bubble making sense as the spread payouts keeps anglers interested, but on opens, I don't know. It also seems to be a 'South-West' thing too, as I cannot remember seeing the silvers pools having separate pots up north?
I see Windmill, Viaduct and Avalon and some Sedges matches allow double bubble, except sections money (understandable).
Thoughts? I think I have confused myself....also don't the silvers anglers get the short straw by paying a larger chunk of entry to the overall monies or does the fact less people are targeting silvers negate that?......You should all sleep well tonight xx

It looked fine, but only odd plippy roach showing. But apparently the pegs 1-5 had been ok for silvers and 14 to 17 better for carp. Plus the roadside is consistent for the carp.
My 2 edges were reedy and looked more hazardous than I would like, those little carp are like mad and will dive into them right away (as I found out). The island was between 13m and I had 14m to the point of it.
Jim Jenner was over on peg 3 and to my left I had 2 empty pegs as 11 was next in.
A few rigs, one for silvers off in the direction of Jim (groundbait) and at the same angle to my left (micros).
An edge rig for both sides and tight over using meat.
A shallow pellet rig for across, off the point of the island and at 2+2 in front.
A deep pellet rig for 2+2 and off the point of the island where the depth was the same.
At the all-in I fed the spots in the peg and for some reason I was convinced I would catch on the short pellet lines.....an hour spent on this gave me 2 carp, one shallow, one on the deck. Jim had caught a couple and lost a couple fishing across. It was soon the 2nd hour....
I could see the reeds on my left full of fish, so I tried here but was landing as many as I lost and it was getting tedious, landing maybe 5 or 6 in quick succession including a 6lb bonus.
The fish were soon on edge and bites came less frequently and when I did hook one they'd be a smidgen quicker into the reeds.
A look down my right gave me a couple but it was not so busy with activity.
A few ventures onto the silvers lines only gave me a few roach and a 6oz skimmer, so I semi-binned them as it was 3hrs in and I guessed it would be a struggle to get 10lb from them, carp came from them though....!! But I looked to be well behind Jim, Bill Hopping and a couple of guys over on the road bank had gone for another net....I was and had too many quiet spells all round.
The next couple of hours was just spent picking up odd fish from the edges and off the silvers line, the short-pellet line had a few bubbles, but I tried there without action either on the deck or off. I decided with 90 minutes left to feed meat over my pellet line. So a cup of meat went in and the array of rigs went back on their winders and I was left with a solitary short meat rig.
My clicker showed a shade over 40lb.
The last 80 minutes or so went well as I just sat on my meat line and had fish regularly until the all-out, my clicker in the 1st net showed 70lb and probably had 20-30lb at the most in the second net, but I knew I never had what at least 3 others had so I tipped the fish back. But I had learned a few things during the day for sure.
I helped Pete with the weigh-in, and as expected it was Bill who won the carp pot, and the silvers was won off the golden peg so they had a nice £96 bonus....

So an interesting day, frustrating I suppose, I spent too long faffing and trying to make things work when maybe I would have fared better doing what I finished up on. Hindsight.....!!
Apex next Sunday with the Pawlett crew, I hope it fishes like I know it can, but I think with around 30 on there it will be patchy.

Summerhayes Rover, 2-4-17 (plus Viaduct Fisho...)
I will start off with my very brief summary of the April Fool's Fisho qualifier.
I drew peg 62, not a great draw by all accounts but maybe a chance of some late meat fish, but with 61 and 63 in it wasn't a convincing outlook. I spent 10 minutes debating whether to bother fishing, but I decided to spend 300 minutes in pursuit of a pipe dream.
300 minutes later, no carp, plenty of silvers and some wet gear, I was soon heading home.
Will done to Bob Giles who won, only just, ahead of Lee Farmer and the man-in-form Craig 'trig' Edmunds.
Onto today, I decided, well as a family we decided, that I should go fishing, so I ventured back to Summerhayes for their open, a rover format match this week, draw the order you choose your peg in.
I arrived to be greeted by Gareth Lennox and Glynn Wickham. I said hellos to the rest of the guys, paid my pools and collected 3 nets not just 2.
A quickish wander around the complex with Gareth and I quizzed him on a few of the pegs etc as he has fished here a lot more than my half a dozen or so times.
Onto the draw, I pulled 12 which meant I was second last in choosing my peg. I fancied peg 11 on Sellicks, maybe peg 9. Peg 6 and peg 12 on Longs were my 2 choices on that lake, but as it turned out Martin Addicot and Bill Hopping chose 12 and 14 on Sellicks, which to me meant I would go elsewhere. So when it came to my turn I said Lily peg 4. Chris Boulton won the midweek match from peg 9 on the lake, but they are moving fish out of here into Sellicks and Longs as they are joining Perch Pit and Lily together to form a bigger Speci carp lake.
I was the only one in the match on the lake, but had 2 guys set up to my right on peg one and peg 14 (?) and then a couple of the carpers on Perch Pit behind me would fish on and off in peg 6.
For bait I had 6mm and 4mm pellets, 8mm meat plus some corn. I had some paste, groundbait and 8mm pellets with me, but they remained in the carryall.
4 rigs assembled all on 0.18>0.14>B911 hooks in 18 and 16's.
The 1st rig was full depth pellet rig for 14m. 2nd was a shallow/slapping/mugging rig for 6mm pellet over the same line at 14m.
The next rig was one for tight to my bank 6m down the right hand side where it was a good 3.5ft deep or more, this same rig doubled up for down to the left around 1mtr off the bank in line with the outside of peg 5. Both meat and corn used on these lines.
Lastly my usual meat rig for 2+2.
The all-in was called and I fed a big pot of 4mm pellets long and 1/2 a cup of corn and meat down the right edge and similarly down to the left before I began on the short meat line.
15 minutes passed and the 1st carp was hooked and landed, the fish in here average around 2lb so that's what I clicked.
No bites were forthcoming so half an hour in I went out long and on the depth rig, but other than baby rudd and minnows it was all quiet, a few liners and a couple foul hooked fish lost saw me on the shallow rig and soon after the 2nd carp of the day was netted, again a false dawn and other than a few foulers and missed bites it was slow going. Yet Bill Hopping up on Sellicks had been netting fish regularly.
A 3rd carp came, to the short meat line but we were nearly 2hrs in.

Hoping to force the issue a bit more I started to feed the short meat line a bit heavier and started pinging pellets tight to the near bank to the left where I had spotted a fish or 2 slurping in the weeds.
30 minutes passed and a few more fish on the short meat line and a couple from the deeper left hand swim.
We were into the last couple of hours and my clicker showed 36lb, which was around 18 fish. But little did I know that things would at least pick up for me as I swung my shallow pellet rig 6m down to my left in the shallower water and it buried right away, then my 2nd, 3rd and 4th fish came in quick time, I fed another decent helping of pellets and went on the short meat line and another flurry of carp were added to my nets and as my 1st clicker got to 63lb I began my 2nd net and I kept popping fish in there by switching between the 2 lines.
Of the last couple of hours I couldn't get a bait in quick enough at times, especially on the short meat, I missed a few bites and foul hooked a couple. But the last 20 minutes or so saw me struggling again, only a rudd and 2 carp came in this period.
The all-out was called and from what I could see, well it was only Bill I could see properly, I was plenty behind him, though he did admit he saw me catching well late on, so perhaps his first couple hours could make a difference. My clickers showed 63lb and 62lb, though the 2nd one I was sure I had had a double click and I said to Ady I reckoned it should read 52lb not 62lb.
My gear at the car and I followed the scales from Mr Lennox on peg 23 Sellicks, he also had a quiet 2hrs at the start but then found a few willing fish and ended with 80-odd pounds, then Bill had 142lb from peg 14 on the same lake. Martin Addicott had 80-something from p12.
The scales made their way to me and my clickers were again working as my 1st net totalled 62lb 13oz and my 2nd was 53lb 5oz for a total of 116lb 2oz. I let the scales go on their way and I went and loaded the car etc.
Longs hadn't fished great for the carp with 73lb the top net off there from peg 12, but the silvers was won with 16lb+ by Mark Lehay off golden peg/draw peg 20, so he got half of the golden peg pot which gave him £55. So I managed 2nd place and a few more pennies for my sins.

Next weekend I am venturing to the Big One show on the Saturday before Pawlett's silvers match at Sedges, which by all accounts had switched on for carp.....the joys.

I drew peg 62, not a great draw by all accounts but maybe a chance of some late meat fish, but with 61 and 63 in it wasn't a convincing outlook. I spent 10 minutes debating whether to bother fishing, but I decided to spend 300 minutes in pursuit of a pipe dream.

Onto today, I decided, well as a family we decided, that I should go fishing, so I ventured back to Summerhayes for their open, a rover format match this week, draw the order you choose your peg in.
I arrived to be greeted by Gareth Lennox and Glynn Wickham. I said hellos to the rest of the guys, paid my pools and collected 3 nets not just 2.
A quickish wander around the complex with Gareth and I quizzed him on a few of the pegs etc as he has fished here a lot more than my half a dozen or so times.
Onto the draw, I pulled 12 which meant I was second last in choosing my peg. I fancied peg 11 on Sellicks, maybe peg 9. Peg 6 and peg 12 on Longs were my 2 choices on that lake, but as it turned out Martin Addicot and Bill Hopping chose 12 and 14 on Sellicks, which to me meant I would go elsewhere. So when it came to my turn I said Lily peg 4. Chris Boulton won the midweek match from peg 9 on the lake, but they are moving fish out of here into Sellicks and Longs as they are joining Perch Pit and Lily together to form a bigger Speci carp lake.
I was the only one in the match on the lake, but had 2 guys set up to my right on peg one and peg 14 (?) and then a couple of the carpers on Perch Pit behind me would fish on and off in peg 6.

4 rigs assembled all on 0.18>0.14>B911 hooks in 18 and 16's.
The 1st rig was full depth pellet rig for 14m. 2nd was a shallow/slapping/mugging rig for 6mm pellet over the same line at 14m.
The next rig was one for tight to my bank 6m down the right hand side where it was a good 3.5ft deep or more, this same rig doubled up for down to the left around 1mtr off the bank in line with the outside of peg 5. Both meat and corn used on these lines.
Lastly my usual meat rig for 2+2.
The all-in was called and I fed a big pot of 4mm pellets long and 1/2 a cup of corn and meat down the right edge and similarly down to the left before I began on the short meat line.
15 minutes passed and the 1st carp was hooked and landed, the fish in here average around 2lb so that's what I clicked.
No bites were forthcoming so half an hour in I went out long and on the depth rig, but other than baby rudd and minnows it was all quiet, a few liners and a couple foul hooked fish lost saw me on the shallow rig and soon after the 2nd carp of the day was netted, again a false dawn and other than a few foulers and missed bites it was slow going. Yet Bill Hopping up on Sellicks had been netting fish regularly.

Summerhayes, Sellicks. 19-03-17
A change of scenery for me this Sunday, I decided on visiting Summerhayes, it isn't somewhere that I visit too often.
I arrived there in plenty of time to see that plenty of 'gardening' has been done around the venue by Pete and co. It looked nice though with plenty of light and wind getting to the waters, which is not a bad thing. Sellicks lake, the one we fished, had plenty of bubbles and odd fish moving on the surface.
There were 10 or so fishing, all regulars at the venue including Bill Hopping who wins a good amount there on the paste. Kedgey, Paul Purchase, Jamie Rich and Janders plus a few others to boot.
The golden peg was drawn, peg 8. That went to Bill. I pulled out peg 6, which is the highest numbered peg I have ever drawn on the lake..!!
The wind was blustery and strong, and by the end of the match my neighbour on peg 4 had broken a couple of pole sections.
I had my mind set to fish for silvers, having some bait left over from a pleasure session on Saturday, but stuck some 6mm meat, 4mm and 6mm pellets in the bag incase I needed them.
Arriving at my appointed plot I went about sorting my stuff, keeping it all as safe from the wind as possible, but I still had to rescue topkits a couple of times during the match.
1 rig for 2 spots at 11m for silvers was set up, and unused.
A rig for my left edge, which although quite deep, wasn't as snaggy as my right edge felt, I would fish meat over maggots there.
A deep banded pellet rig for on the deck at 14m just off the far bank plus the usual 6m meat rig, which went bite-less all day surprisingly.
The all in was called and after dropping my feed in the specific areas I began by toss-potting 4mm pellets and fishing a 6mm in the band on the deck. No indications were forthcoming in the first 30 minutes then I managed to hook, and lose, about 8 small carp, I am sure they were all foul hooked as the odd fish was swirling near the surface against the island.
So it was off the box to set up a shallow rig, plus I fed a liberal helping of pellets by the cup just to try and force the fish down.
I started to ping pellets over while trying my other lines. Of the 3 guys I could see it was only peg 11 that was catching anything. I never managed a fish off my other spots so I ventured back across with my shallow rig and promptly had 3 fish in succession. The fish average around 3lb, so I was using my clicker, just to practice I suppose...haha.
A look on the deep rig then gave me a couple of smaller carp, but I was still suffering with foul hookers. So for the rest of the match I pretty much spent fishing shallow, varying depths and the odd occasion on the deck. Further along my side of the lake it was both pegs 8 and 11 catching well, especially the latter who was catching down his edges. But we all suffered with lost fish.
I also spied Steve Kedge get his 2nd carp net at one point, so no doubt he'd been doing well.
I did manage 3 or 4 fish from my left edge in quick succession around 4hrs into the match and again I had 4 from there in the last hour.
At the all out I had around 30 carp, my clicker showed 63lb on one net and my last hour's fishing went un-clicked into my 2nd net. But with my guesstimates at weight guessing of smaller carp being not very good, I presumed I had around 80lb or so.
I packed up the kit and caught up with the weigh in, and it was Jim Jenner leading with 74lb, then further along Kedgey had a low 80lb net. Paul Purchase had a cracking net of silvers for around 17lb, including tench and crucians.
Peg 11 had 60-something pound before Bill on the golden peg had some very decent silvers and a bunch of carp to also end up with a low 80lb net.
Then came me, 3 weighs, my 1st net had 62lb and 9 ounces, and my 2nd net had 27lb 15oz giving me 90lb 8oz, which took me into the lead, and with only peg 4 left to weigh it gave me the win. Plus I was pleased my clicker worked.
I was nice to get some shallow fishing done, but I am sure my peg was worth more than I extracted, but the weather hampered things and other if's and but's, hindsight and less duck activity would maybe have been kinder to me.

11-04-15. Gary Bull/England Disabled Fund Raising Event, Summerhayes Fishery, Bridgwater.
Today wasn't about the fishing (which for some was a bonus), but it was organised and arranged in large by Mark Cox and Norman Sterry. The ambition was to raise a bit of money to help the funding to send Gary Bull and the England Disabled angling team to Portugal for their World Champs.
There were plenty of donations to the raffle from many people and companies, so massive thanks to them (the list will be on the Gary Bull Fundraiser page of Facebook).
Summerhayes Fishery was the chosen venue and Pete (plus he amiable team) were a great help.
I arrived at the lakes around 7:15 and there were still a few people there but I managed to find myself indulged in the sorting of things, mostly helping with the 'admin' side of things, oh and the weigh in!!
There was plenty of banter flying around and we had a few very good anglers fishing as well as a couple of guys who'd never fished a match and a fair few venue regulars.
These guys included Des Shipp, Vince Brown, Alex Murray, Giles Cochrane and plenty of other very capable anglers.
The draw was meant to be 8:45 and fish 10:30 to 16:30, but in the moment of re-jigging the sections/payouts as we had a few no-shows. We began the draw, with raffle tickets being sold at the same time. This went smoothly enough, but by the time 47 of the lads had drawn and mine and Mark's pegs were left, we still had to sort the monies and envelopes etc.....I pulled peg 5 on Sellicks and left Mark with 10 on Longs (although someone else was on there....ooops, but sorted). It left us both with 45 minutes less than everyone else to get ready.
I unloaded my car and rapidly got to my peg, it was windy!! I didn't know if it was good or bad, but a few guys said its ok for both carp and silvers,
I set up a small feeder and 3 top kits for the pole, 1 for silvers at 11m, a deep rig for tight over with carp in mind but could be shallowed as was for banded pellet, a margin rig for top kit+1 to my right with meat and a rig for meat at 13m (no fish caught here).
I sorted my bait out, 6mm meat, dampened 6mm pellets, a few maggots and some damp micros. I also had some groundbait mixed as I planned on 2 silvers lines, one with micro and 2nd with the groundbait.
At the all in I fed the relevant areas and started on the feeder, 20 mins later I switched to the pole and quickly foul hooked a couple carp which came astray. It was hard going it the awkward breeze and the fish didn't seem intent on joining the fun.
The rest of my match was spent rotating all my lines, I managed to snare a 4lb bream on the feeder and a few smaller skimmers over the groundbait, my micros line only gave me 1 bite.
My best line was my right hand margin which gave me 6 of my 8 carp, but they were on the small side.
The silvers never really got going in my peg, but further to my right Ray Wickham was getting a few up to near 6lb, but he'd not entered the silvers pools. Down to my left someone was picking up a few decent skimmers and odd carp. It was tricky for everyone I could see. The lad on peg 6 also packed up early as he was biteless.
As we headed to the end of the match, rumour came in that Des Shipp on Longs peg 37 was doing really well, he had plenty of room and you don't give 'possibly' the best angler in the room any advantage. Also Vince Brown and Scott Russell on my lake were doing ok. Lilly lake was consistent and Longs was seeing a few people catch some fish late on.
The all out sounded and as I had been nominated for weigh sheet duty, I packed up just my top kits and moved my kit to one side to sort out later on!!
I reckoned I had 20lb of carp and 5lb of silvers but nowhere on the lake or overall.
The weigh in started on Longs and we worked our way through the pegs with 26lb and 24lb (14lb+ silvers) the first couple of weights, then we move around a few more anglers to find Paul Homewood on peg 14 put 30lb on the scales, we soon got to Alex Murray on peg 17. He had 64lb+ from what looked a really wide peg, nice. Jamie Rich down on peg 19 amassed nearly 20lb of silvers that included 4 big bream, a very decent silvers net.
We headed up the road bank to see Giles Cochrane and Dom Sullivan put 49lb+ and 44lb+ on the board respectively. Then Glyn Wickham showed his silvers fishing skills and placed a top silvers net of 25lb 9oz. Last on Longs to weigh was Des Shipp, he had 1lb 1oz of silvers before his 2 weighs of carp went to a limited 80lb (knocked back from 87lb 15oz).
Next up we weighed one side of Sellicks which saw me weigh 32lb+ and 34lb the only weight better on my side of the lake (section) but Ray Wickham did catch 17lb of silvers from peg 3 and the lad on peg 7 (Steve Rees) had 12lb+ of silvers too.
Lilly gave consistent fishing with a good few nets between 30lb and 42lb, Bob Gullick winning the lake(section). There was a silvers net of 12lb off this lake to Tony Welsby.
We moved back to Sellicks to weigh Paul Preston who was the last angler in my section, then we weighed the far side of the lake.
Vince Brown, a very tidy angler, put a healthy 10lb 3oz of silvers on the board, topping this up with carp moved him to 2nd spot with 69lb+.
Gary Bull himself weighed in 31lb and there wasn't much more until Julian Nurse plopped 29lb of topkit caught fish on the scales. Lastly was Scott Russell on the end peg. He did well to catch 10lb 13oz of silvers and another 40lb+ of carp.

We headed up the road bank to see Giles Cochrane and Dom Sullivan put 49lb+ and 44lb+ on the board respectively. Then Glyn Wickham showed his silvers fishing skills and placed a top silvers net of 25lb 9oz. Last on Longs to weigh was Des Shipp, he had 1lb 1oz of silvers before his 2 weighs of carp went to a limited 80lb (knocked back from 87lb 15oz).
Next up we weighed one side of Sellicks which saw me weigh 32lb+ and 34lb the only weight better on my side of the lake (section) but Ray Wickham did catch 17lb of silvers from peg 3 and the lad on peg 7 (Steve Rees) had 12lb+ of silvers too.
Lilly gave consistent fishing with a good few nets between 30lb and 42lb, Bob Gullick winning the lake(section). There was a silvers net of 12lb off this lake to Tony Welsby.
We moved back to Sellicks to weigh Paul Preston who was the last angler in my section, then we weighed the far side of the lake.
Vince Brown, a very tidy angler, put a healthy 10lb 3oz of silvers on the board, topping this up with carp moved him to 2nd spot with 69lb+.
Gary Bull himself weighed in 31lb and there wasn't much more until Julian Nurse plopped 29lb of topkit caught fish on the scales. Lastly was Scott Russell on the end peg. He did well to catch 10lb 13oz of silvers and another 40lb+ of carp.

So overall I did ok really, 2nd overall in my 10 peg section, 3rd silvers in section (6th lake) and 4th on the lake overall. I did lose a few foul hooked fish and maybe I could have done better if I had been able to fish across better.
After the weigh in I sorted the payments out and everyone had a burger given to them courtesy of Summerhayes.
We held a minutes silence in memory of Clive Cunnigham who sadly died this week, he was a part of the furniture at the lakes and will be missed by many.
The presentation was done and as the payment were well spread, there were no less than 17 different anglers picking up today.
After that we held the raffle which was popular as there were plenty of super prizes to win.
OVERALL WE RAISED OVER £530 TOWARDS THE COSTS NEEDED BY GARY BULL etc...
